Field Trips to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum

For Floridian educators and administrators worried about finding that next school field – you can finally take a breath. Your next school field trip is already set, and it’s pretty spectacular. Situated at the heart of the Everglades, on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation, the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum effortlessly offers nature and Native American culture for students through various exhibits, programs, tours, and a scenic, mile-long boardwalk. With over 180,000 artifacts and bountiful flora, the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki museum is the ideal destination to push past day-to-day boundaries and directly immerse with the Seminole people.

Native American History with a View

Too often we find ourselves drained by the same routine. The truth is, learning can be both fun and informative, without having to take sides. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum has a number of outside features that keep visitors engaged and connected with nature. Taking selfies at the through the cypress dome, learning about the clans at the pavilion, and buying crafts at the Seminole village are just a few of the ways entertainment and the outdoors mix here. What better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon than having a conversation with a Seminole artist or possibly seeing an American alligator.

Integral to the Seminole people is a history of determination, strength and perseverance. After enduring years of disease, warfare, enslavement and forced migration, the Seminole people were able to flee and prosper from the wetlands of the Florida Everglades. In fact, all five exhibits of the museum are used to share part of the Seminole story, from life in the 1890s to the exploration of contemporary Seminole life. In addition, keeping future generations educated about the Native American journey can help preserve the Everglades, influence core values and bridge the gap between two cultures one mind at a time.

Just the Way You Like it

An emphasis on fun education is part of what makes the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki museum so appealing.  Making sure not to surpass field trip leisure with classroom academia, our Education Division works to adjust educational resources and curricula for maximum balance. Also, crafts, games, even carefully chosen exhibits can be specifically tailored towards the interests and needs of a field trip group. Furthermore, taking the time to partake in these activities is what creates exciting and memorable experiences.

Moreover, Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation not only boasts the unique Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki museum, it is also home to one of the Everglades best adventure destinations in Billy Swamp Safari. After spending time at the museum, many attendees hop over to experience the interactive live Critter Shows, popular Airboat Rides, and  their award-winning Swamp Buggy Eco Tours.
